March: Lyrical

In a recent car ride to Costco with my husband, I played car DJ—a favorite role of mine. I felt a little nostalgic so I decided to play some of our favorite songs released shortly after we had our first baby.

"Wow! I haven't heard this song in a LONG time. I'll never forget how I first heard it," my husband blurted out. He then began to recall his trip to the 24-hour pharmacy by our house when we both had the flu. He volunteered to go out to buy cough syrup for both of us. I remember, feverishly, waving goodbye, muttering a tired thank you, and breastfeeding my first baby.

As soon as he got in the car, he turned up the radio to distract him from coughing his lungs out.

"I'm waiting for this cough syrup to come down, come down."

To this day, it's still one of the weirdest moments of his life where he felt like someone was narrating his life.

But lyrics have that effect, don't they? They can narrate some of our highlights and lowest of lows (I'm talking to 18-year-old Neidy singing into a pen to a Taylor Swift song after a particularly bad date).

This month, reflect on a song lyric or a two that seem to narrate your life today or even in the past. What tune would narrate your life?
