September: With a Little Help
“My youngest daughter, Harper, has a friendship that I don't know if I'd say is breaking up or falling apart. But the two girls are growing up, and there are some hard feelings between the two as they change. They were very tight for years, and now it's just different.
Harper's friend's mom and I are good friends. It would always be that I'd pick Harper up, or she'd pick her daughter up, and we'd end up talking for an hour. She's a real, genuine, friendly, and funny person—I love her company.
Well, I ended up writing the mother and telling her all this: I love the friendship between us, and I love that our girls kept company with each other and that my prayer is they'll find each other again. I shared a few favorite memories from both Harper and her friend and me and this mother.
I put as much time into the note as I would a blog post or essay, which made me think of it as a writing prompt, especially as mothers who write.
That is part of the intersection, right? We use our words in part to encourage other mothers.”

Our words could serve another mother we love—Callie’s anecdote reminded us of this little delight. This month, spend some time giving your friend a little encouragement. After all, we could all use a little help from our friends.
