Podcast: Setting Creative Goals
It’s January! Time to take inventory on 2018, hash out our priorities for 2019, and set a goal -- or more! -- for the year to come. Abbie and Sonya share what kind of goals the C+C crew is making, a few of the goals our Exhale members have, and what goals they have each set and met (or failed!) in the past. You’ll also get a little preview of what they are planning on for the new year.
Abbie’s an Obliger and Sonya’s a Questioner in Gretchen Rubin’s Four Tendencies. Do you know your type? It might help you as you set your goals for this year.
Sonya talked about making S.M.A.R.T. Goals = Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic or Relevant, Time-Bound. Here’s a breakdown of what those look like with downloadable worksheets, too.
Abbie defined a Stretch Goal as something that scares you. Technically, a Stretch Goal is any goal that really requires you to dig deep and push yourself to the limits of what you ever thought was possible. So, same thing.
Here’s a resource that combines the ideas of S.M.A.R.T. Goals + Stretch Goals. It’s really a podcast, but the show notes give you most of the info you need!
Last year, we interviewed Jenn Batchelor, Coffee + Crumbs Content Director on what makes a good submission. You can listen in here as you march toward our open submissions in the spring!
Our prompt for you:
Take out a blank sheet of paper. Grab the closest pen. Write out the words: “One year from now… ”
Then: Fill in the blank. Write what’s on your heart. Use what you write down to help guide you as you set your creative goals for the new year.
Submission Opportunity:
We know spring sounds like a long ways away, but Coffee + Crumbs will be opening for submissions again in either March or April! A lot of you in the Exhale FB group have “submit more” or even “submit to C+C” as your goal for the year. If that’s you, get started now! We’d love to see your essays spilling into our submissions come spring. We’ll share a link in the FB group when submissions are open again.
Our quote we shared with you:
“A goal properly set is halfway reached.” —Zig Ziglar
