In this episode of the Exhale Podcast, we speak with Kayla Craig on what it’s like to write prayers, how she decides when it’s the right time to make a transition in her creative life, and why preorders are so important to authors.

Kayla Craig is a natural-born storyteller. She writes nuanced and nurturing prayers for parents at Liturgies for Parents and Kayla co-founded and hosts Upside Down Podcast, a place for conversations on faith and justice. Her most recent published essays are in This Is Motherhood: A Motherly Collection of Reflections + Practices (Sounds True, 2019) and Rally: Litanies for Lovers of Jesus and Justice (Upper Room Books, 2020). Her book of prayers for parents, titled To Light Their Way: A Collection of Prayers and Liturgies for Parents will release in October of this year. Kayla and her husband Jonny live in Iowa in a 110-year-old former monastery and raise four young kids. You can find Kayla on her website, personal Instagram, and at the Liturgies for Parents Instagram, and you can preorder her latest book here

Resources we mentioned:

Kayla mentions use “The Examen” process for checking in with yourself about a creative transition. Here’s a good explainer.
